Capital IQ, Eat Street & Big Bazaar - Sweet, Sweet & Bitter All together

1. Sweet Part - Capital IQ & Eat Street = Awesome

29th April 2012 for me started at 6:30 AM, quite early for me :), got ready for a written examination of S&P Capital IQ a leading provider of data and analytic for global financial professionals and have offices around the world, with its headquarters in New York.

Reached the center well before time thanks to my wife who really manages time well, but was amazed to see the number of people applying for the post, which is quite understandable as the paper advertisement didn't mentioned the required experience or the degree should be complete or not but just says we require MBA Finance, MS Finance and that's it for research analyst.

But have to say they managed it quite well, we were allotted different exam rooms booked in very well know SVIT College, Hyderabad. Then there was 1 Hour OMR sheet based examination. The test consist of 3 sections A) Finance - 40 questions B) Reasoning with bit of Maths - 10 questions and last C) English - 10 Questions. Don't know if I will be shortlisted or not but was very happy with my effort.

Got free at 11 AM and we were headed towards home but suddenly changed our mind to visit the Hussain Sagar Lake situated in the heart of Hyderabad. By the side of lake we enjoyed some very spicy yummy Indian chat e.g. Raj Kachori, Dahi Puri and Bhel Puri + 2 cans of Coke. Finished sightseeing by 12:30 PM and then decided to have a look in the nearby BIG Bazaar, which forced the good going day to take a U - Turn.

2. Bitter Part - BIG Bazaar = Pathetic

Big Bazaar is on a roll with its 1st time long weekend dhamaaka sale as they call it due to Saturday, Sunday and Labor's Day coming together so we decided to have a look. Parked my bike in one of the smallest parking space I have ever seen for Big Bazaar which might have lead to a private parking place just in front of it and believe me you will park your vehicle there only to be roasted like chicken courtesy of no shades and trees.

We bought two BIG Cinema platinum tickets for Vickey Donor @ 1:30 PM show, but that time the clock was ticking 12:50 so we decided to go to the food bazaar. There we bought a water bottle, kitchen apron, a pair of socks and my wife liked a saree but as we were short on time decided to visit the saree counter again after the movie and got the billing done for other items. Till now everything was fine.

The movie was fine, one time watch but preferably on a laptop rather than on screen. At interval we had coke, popcorn, some veg rolls and were enjoying our time together. Then suddenly after the interval everything changed.

There was no air conditioning in the hall, don't know what was the reason, which added to the boring and predictable movie after break (only in my opinion). It was really a long wait for 1 hour 15 minutes to finish the movie in those conditions, I was just sitting there to see John Abrahim song which came after the end of the movie hehehe.

Then as planned we tried to visit food Bazaar and general Bazaar again but at the counter I couldn't believe what I encountered.

The baggage guard said that we could not keep Big bazaar carry bags in the baggage place F....K. Then we asked as there is a seal and we have a bill can we take it inside and the answer was again NOOO

I humbly asked where should we keep the items bought from them only and believe it or not the answer was I don't know!!!! Bullshit. So, that means if we come out once then can't go inside again but only after throwing the already purchased products somewhere else. Grrrrh.........

Don't know what's the policy behind for this kind of situation, may be a good one, of BIG BAZAAR but as a consumer it was truly annoying & frustrating and I would like to never go again there. So good luck Big Bazaar, you just lost a customer.

This is Varun signing off and if you had some similar kind of experience please share. Bye and have a nice day. I also want to say that it is my opinion only and not an attempt to harm anyone in anyway including BIG BAZAAR.

Google Drive & Heaven for Gmail Users now 10GB

Google has launched Google Drive, a cloud storage service where users can upload and access all of their files, including videos, photos, Google Docs, PDFs and beyond. The service is offering new users 5GB of storage for free with upgrades starting at 25GB for $2.49/month, 100GB for $4.99/month or even 1TB for $49.99/month. Google also increased the free storage in Gmail from the existing 7.5 GB to 10 GB to all users. Hope that 10 GB is also ever increasing as in the case of 7.5 GB

Now at least some services are paid, keep on Google.... Waiting for it as the site says "Your Drive is not ready yet"

“Drive is built to work seamlessly with your overall Google experience. You can attach photos from Drive to posts in Google+, and soon you’ll be able to attach stuff from Drive directly to emails in Gmail. Drive is also an open platform, so we’re working with many third-party developers so you can do things like send faxes, edit videos and create website mockups directly from Drive.

Doomsday Clock - Is it already Ticking ???

Who's actions will lead the time to be exactly 12:00 o'clock - Definitely North Korea is contributing and US is not far behind.

North Korea sharply escalated the rhetoric against its southern rival, claiming it will soon conduct "special actions" that would reduce South Korea's conservative government to ashes within minutes.
Monday's threat from the North's military leadership comes amid concerns that North Korea may be plotting another provocation in the wake of an unsuccessful rocket launch condemned by the U.N. Security Council as a violation of a ban against missile activity.

The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face, maintained since 1947 by the board of directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago. The closer the clock is to midnight, the closer the world is estimated to be to global disaster.

The most recent officially-announced setting — five minutes to midnight (11:55pm) — was made on 10 January 2012. Now time to change it again, may be yes. Reflecting international events dangerous to humankind, the clock's hands have been adjusted twenty times since its inception in 1947, when the clock was initially set to seven minutes to midnight (11:53pm).

The Door To Hell

In the darkness of night, flames dance and lick the air, casting an ominous glow that can be seen from miles around in the desert of Turkmenistan. The source of all this light and heat is a massive crater, in which blazes an unceasing inferno, dubbed by locals the "Door to Hell."
It is situated near the small town of Darvaz. The story of this place lasts already for 35 years. Once the geologists were drilling for gas. Then suddenly during the drilling they have found an underground cavern, it was so big that all the drilling site with all the equipment and camps got deep deep under the ground. None dared to go down there because the cavern was filled with gas. So they ignited it so that no poisonous gas could come out of the hole, and since then, it’s burning, already for 35 years without any pause. Nobody knows how many tons of excellent gas has been burned for all those years but it just seems to be infinite there.

It's been up to storytellers to maintain the explanation for the "Door to Hell." But fortunately for the skeptical who may want to see it for themselves, the flaming crater continues to burn today--and shows no signs of dying down anytime soon.

New Suckermouth Armored Catfish

A new species of suckermouth armored catfish (pictured) has been found in Ecuador, a new study says.
DePaul University scientist Windsor Aguirre found five specimens of the odd-looking fish in 2008 in the Santa Rosa River (map) and sent them to Alabama's Auburn University for identification.
"When we first realized it was new, it wasn't particularly surprising—this family [of catfish] increases in number every year," said study leader Milton Tan, a Ph.D. student in biology at Auburn.

Instead, what interested Tan and colleagues is that the 2.8-inch-long (7-centimeter-long) species—unlike its relatives—lacks armored plates on the sides of its head.

The lack of head plates suggests the species is a "missing link" between other Cordylancistrus species and the related genus Chaetostoma, which has an unplated snout, Tan said.

The arrangement makes the new species "a really unusual fish," said Tan, who named the animal Cordylancistrus santarosensis after its home river.

Space Pictures This Week: Cosmic Flower

Spring flowers are blooming—even in space. This recently released picture shows NGC 7023, also called the Iris nebula for its floral appearance, as seen from Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona.

The cosmic flower is actually what's known as a reflection nebula. The interstellar cloud of dust and gas glows not because its material is being heated, but because it's reflecting light from nearby stars.
For instance, the bright glow in the middle of the nebula comes from a hot, massive star that gives off blue light, which then gets scattered by dust, lending the nebula its distinctive color.

Why No Big Tsunami Today? - Featured from Discovery

To Know More Please Click Here

The magnitude 8.6 earthquake that struck North Sumatra, Indonesia, at 2:38 p.m. local time today did not lead to a tsunami comparable to Indonesia's 2004 disaster for a couple of reasons.

The magnitude 9.1 earthquake that struck in 2004 and triggered a tsunami that killed more than 200,000 people in 14 countries was a subduction megathrust earthquake closer to shore (250 kilometers south-southeast of Banda Aceh). A megathrust earthquake is also the same type of earthquake that struck off Japan in 2011. These types of earthquakes do the kind of damage that their name implies, mega thrusting of the fault.

Today's temblor ripped along an oceanic transform fault, tearing the seafloor in a strike-slip motion as opposed to popping it apart. Strike-slip motion carries less of an ability to push up on the entire water column above it and hence is less likely to form the same kind of tsunami wave as what hit Indonesia in 2004 and Japan in 2011. Though it is not without risks. Early calculations showed that the island of Simeulue might expect waves as high as 6 meters (20 feet).

Thank God it is a Strike slip not a Reverse Dip (Thrust) Slip, which caused havoc in 2004 & 2011 in Indonesia & Japan respectively.

The diagrams explain themselves.
